!! WORK IN PROGRESS !! The Margaret Dunne Day Hospice
The New Day Hospice will be officially opened and named on Friday 27 June by TV Journalist and Broadcaster Martyn Lewis CBE. The new unit has been created thanks to some specific funding we obtained from the Department of Health. Our challenge now is to make it a real home from home for the patients that use it. If you can help us do this please visit our special wish list by clicking here Day care is a very popular facility at Eden Valley Hospice currently taking up to 10 patients per day, on Mondays, Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays. It creates the opportunity for patients, and their families, to have time to themselves and to meet with others who can fully appreciate how it feels to have a life threatening or life limiting illness. For families and friends who care for those attending day care on a day to day bases it enables them to take ‘time out’ of the caring role for a day so that they can do whatever they wish with their free time i.e. shopping, cleaning, time with friends etc, things that give a sense of normality from the stress and pressure that caring for someone with illness can bring. Day care is open four days a week as follows: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays from 10.00am to 3.00pm. On Tuesdays, we have an outpatient clinic by appointment only, for patients referred to us by healthcare professionals. Tuesday afternoons provide the time for the day care team to do either home or follow-up visits. There is also a lymphoedema session on Tuesday afternoons by appointment only through the lymphoedema nurse. Day care is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers who attend and support the nursing staff to provide a high standard of care to each patient.
